Orlando, Florida is best known for the family entertainment and tourist attractions of Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld, this city of more than 200,000 also offers a diverse selection of beautiful golf, luxury and lakefront homes, along with condominium and townhome communities, all with the benefit of a warm year-round climate.
The state's third-largest metropolitan, Orlando is located in Central Florida, and is home to the second-largest university in the state, the University of Central Florida. The city began attracting many high-tech businesses in the mid-20th century, thanks to its proximity to the Kennedy Space Center. When Walt Disney announced plans in 1965 to build Walt Disney World here, it ushered in a transformation of the city, which now has an economy based solidly on the tourism industry.
Orlando is located in Orange County, which is served by some of the state's best public schools. Private schools and higher education institution also abound. In addition to the famous theme parks, a number of other recreational opportunities are available, including the Orlando Magic NBA team, college football games, Gatorland, featuring live alligators and crocodiles, and numerous museums and shopping venues.
